Karina Alviña, PhD

Dr. Alviña is originally from Chile. She moved to NYC to complete her PhD thesis at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. After two postdoctoral fellowships, she moved to Texas Tech University to start as an Assistant Professor in Biology in 2016. Since January 2020 she is a junior faculty in the Department of Neuroscience at the University of Florida College of Medicine. Herresearch focuses on neural mechanisms altered by environmental factors such as stress, dietary habits and exercise. She is also interested in uncovering how these mechanisms can lead to unhealthy cognitive aging and neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease.
