Gordon F Buchanan, MD, PhD, completed undergraduate, graduate, and medical studies at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. He then completed neurology residency and neuroscience fellowship at the Yale School of Medicine. He is currently the Beth L. Tross Epilepsy Professor and Associate Professor of Neurology at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine in Iowa City, where he cares for patients with epilepsy and conducts basic science research focused on understanding mechanisms for sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP) with a particular interest in the role of sleep state, time of day, and circadian rhythms.
