Barbara G. Vickrey, MD, MPH

Barbara G. Vickrey, M.D., M.P.H., is Professor and System Chair of Neurology at the Icahn School of Medicine and the Mount Sinai Health System, in New York City. She specializes in translating clinical evidence into improvements in routine medical practice to improve patient health. Among her accomplishments are demonstrating that collaboration among health care systems, community organizations, and caregivers to re-engineer care can improve quality of care and outcomes for people with dementia and for those with Parkinson's disease. Dr. Vickrey is a member of the National Academy of Medicine and a former President of the American Neurological Association. She has been System Chair of Neurology for 6.5 years, recruiting 88 faculty to the department to date, and building programs in outcomes/health services research, neuropalliative medicine, neuro-otology, and neuro-informatics, among others. In her prior faculty appointment, she was Vice Chair for Academic Affairs in the Department of Neurology at UCLA, creating workshops and tools to make the academic advancement process more transparent for faculty. Dr. Vickrey earned her M.D. at Duke University School of Medicine and her M.P.H. at the UCLA School of Public Health. She completed postgraduate clinical training in medicine and neurology at the University of Washington in Seattle, and then research fellowships in the Robert Wood Johnson.
